Yves Cuilleron is one of the most renown producers in northern Rhône. His Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu are widely known and award-winning wines and he makes several top wines from these origins and also terroir wines from vines that grow outside the appellation boundary.
Most of the vineyards are located in and around Chavanay right on the river Rhône, just south of the town of Condrieu. The vineyards stretch up to the Côte-Rôtie in the north to the village of Saint Péray in the south.
Yves Cuilleron has today become one of the most sought-after producers in the area and it is becoming harder and harder to source his “top wines”. What he has succeeded in above all is managing warm vintages (which have become more and more frequent), and his wines are always hailed as some of the most elegant from the region.
The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and crushed and partially de-stalked in the cellar. The juice is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks for about 3 weeks, with regular punch down. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in vats with domestic yeast and malolactic fermentation in barrels. The wine is then stored for 16 months in oak barrels.
The wine has a concentrated aroma of blackberries, blackcurrants, sun-ripened raspberries and herbs. The palette is fresh and full of cherries, freshly ground black pepper and licorice. The lively acidity follows the wine through a long aftertaste.
