Barolo Noi – Virna Borgogno

History

Borgogno’s vineyards date back to 1720, while the modern estate was founded in 1950 by Enrico Borgogno. Nowadays, the two sisters Virna and Ivana, descendants of one of the most renowned Langhe families, have taken full control of the estate, with Ivana managing the administrative and marketing side of the business and Virna managing the winery. Virna Borgogno is the first woman in Italy to graduate in oenology and oenological techniques.

In 2001, the farm was renamed with the new “Virna” logo to reflect the great role of women in the industry.
The vineyards cover approximately 10 hectares in Barolo’s most prestigious areas; the vineyards Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda are located in Barolo proper, while the signature wine “Noi” comes from vineyard plots in Novello, Monforte and La Morra.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand and crushed when they arrive at the winery. The must macerates with the grape skins for about 10-12 days at 29-31°C. After elevage, the wine is stored in oak barrels for about 18 months, after which the wine rests in stainless steel tanks until bottling.

Flavor profile

This wine is powerful in its elegance with notes of red fruit along with a complex and delicious spiciness, with well-integrated and tight tannins. Offers a long and Nebbiolo-typical finish.
