Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen and his wife Maine produced their first wine in the Mâconnais village of Pierreclos 1980. Today the tiny property is used as an experimental workshop for the Guffens-Heynens other wine adventures. The couple have projects and production not only in Burgundy, but also in the Rhône and like with Chateau Closiot; in Bordeaux. The curiosity is neverending for this ambitious wine couple!
The first vintage produced at Chateau Closiot was back in 2017 and that only produced 3 barrels. For this particular wine; “C de Sec” only grapes from the village of Barsac are used and they are picked when fully ripe.
Vinification & Terroir
Fermentation takes place on oak barrels (25% new). The malolactic fermentation also takes place on oak prior to a 4-6 month maturing process after which the wine is moved to cement barrels for a few months just before bottling.
This wine has a nuanced nose with elements of brioche, orange peel, tropical fruit and cedar. The palette is rich and concentrated but elegant with fine acid. Tropical fruit, brioche and some oak gives this wine many layers and compexity. Long and nuanced after taste.
