Château Haut Coustet Sauternes

History

The particular climate of Sauternes with high humidity creates the right conditions for noble rot (Botrytis) to form on the grapes. Some of the world’s best sweet wines are made here.  Château Haut Coustet is situated in the Barsac area in the southwestern part of Sauternes and is run by Mr. Philippe Mercadier since 1996.

Wine production and terroir

The grapes were harvested by hand from 50 year old vines. The wine has been aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Druvorna plockas för hand från 50-åriga stockar.

The terroir in Sauternes is varied. What creates its particularity is the autumn morning mists that provide good conditions for the noble rot to form on the grapes.

Flavour profile

The wine has clear notes of honey with tropical fruit, vanilla and a spiciness from the oak and the noble rot. It is n ambitious and well balanced wine with fresh acidity.
