Pierre Usseglio is one of the most well regarded producers in Châteauneuf du Pape. They own 24 hectars of vineyards with some of the best locations in the region. The various locations boast four different types of terroir which has great impact on the complexity in the wines. There are lime-rich, cool locations as well as dry, warm sandy soil. The terroir in combination with old vines and generations of craftmanship has resulted in this excellent Châteauneuf-du-Pape which is complex, and flavourful and at the same time both elegant and full of finesse.
Winemaking and terroir
The grapes are picked in boxes and manually sorted at the optimum ripeness. The Grenache-vineyards are exposed to the sun in a northwestern position. The age of the vines is between 30 and 100.
The terroir is rich in limestone and clay
The aroma is intense and complex with wonderful hints of liquorice and blue blossoms. There’s dark fruit (black currants and blackberries) and other aromatics such as black pepper in its character.
