Domaine du Colombier is known as one of the best high quality producers of Crozes Hermitage. The Viale family planted their first vines at the foot of the Hermitage hill in 1929. The business is now run by the third generation of winemakers and they own over 13 hectares of vines spread over some of the best areas in Mercurol and Tain.
Vinification and terroir
The fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks and the wine is then matured for 12 months in 600 liters oak barrels. Emphasis is placed on the maturity of the fruit without compromizing the structure. This results in wines with high precision, balance and aging potential.
The aromas are intensive and complex with tones of red and dark berries as well as liquorice and herbs. The taste is elegand with tones of black currant, blackberries and chocolate. After a while, aromas of black pepper and flowers develop. It is a well-balanced wine with good acidity and long aftertaste.
