Sergio and Carla Zenato fell in love with the area around Lake Garda and established themselves there back in 1960. Since then the Zenato family have created a tradition that focusses on craftsmanship and quality for their wines, not least their white wines that were given a strong focus from the beginning. With great care and an enormous respect for the land and its terroir Zenato delivers absolute top quality wines year in and year out. That the area around Lake Garda was unique was clear from the start, and now Sergio and Carlas children Alberto and Nadia are taking the vineyard to new heights. Having grown up in the winery and amongst the vines seems to have ensured the terroir is not only in the ground, but also in their blood. Alberto represents the stable and traditional whilst Nadias creativity takes Zenato into new adventures.
The grapes are harvested by hand in the vineyard of Santa Cristina in San Benedetto di Lugana in the middle of september. They are pressed and fermented on steel tanks, with pump over twice daily to achive maximum flavour and colour. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation and are then stored on old french oak barrels as well as slavonian oak barrels prior to bottling.
In Zenatos Garda Merlot we find the best of two worlds. The soft, full and berry-packed character meets the cool and sandy soil by the slopes of lake Garda. These two components and Zenato’s rigorous sense of quality gives us a wine that’s full of dark cherries, herbs, tobacco, elegant notes of barrels and a large dose of freshness.
