Domaine de la Biscarelle is located in the middle of the sandstone-rich district of Orange, in the outskirts of the famous village of Châteauneuf du Pape. It comprises 5 hectares within the golden appellation, as well as the remaining vineyards that are positioned on the other side of the road (which makes the border of the district). This means that the wines made of grapes from these vines only can be bottled as Côtes du Rhône.
Le Grand Saint Paul is a vineyard that’s located right next to the La Biscarelles Châteauneuf du Pape-vineyard. This wine has been intentionally down classified to a Vin de France (Wine from France) in order to circumvent the rules within the Appellation system. They choose to call the wine a vin nature from Orange.
The grapes are vinifed on whole bunches, fermenting and macerating during 3-5 weeks with ”pumping over” for extraction. The wine is stored for 6-9 months on cement vats prior to bottling. No filtration and a minimum of additives.
Spicy and complex with juicy dark berry tones. The wine shows a silky structure with soft tannins and good acidity. The spiciness is peppery and shows notes of vegetables. A nice minerality show up i the finish, which is lingering.
