Massolino is one of the highest-rated producers in the village of Serrallunga d’Alba in Piedmont. A fourth generation family producer founded in 1896; now with the sons Roberto and Franco Massolino at the helm. Langhe Chardonnay is the rebel of the producer as the son Franco decided to start using Chardonnay grapes in the mid 1990’s without the approval of his father. This is a wine that has improved significantly over the last three vintages.
Vinification & Terroir
The average age of the vines is 30 years. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over 10-12 days, and the wine is then resting in oak barrels (of which 50% are new barels) för 8 months.
Terroir: A mix of sand, clay and chalk.
This is a medium bodied wine in a fresh style with high fruit concentration. It has clear tones of sunripe lemons and yellow apple with elegant pineapple and freshly baked brioche.
