History
Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen and his wife Maine produced their first wine in the Mâconnais village of Pierreclos 1980. After five years as a wine broker Guffens-Heynens started their own négociant house “Verget” in 1990. He scoured the length and breadth of Burgundy for the best grapes and signed up quality driven growers that he could trust. The grapes that are procured must be hand-picked and of the same quality that are used in their own wines. After harvest the grapes are taken to the winery where all wines are produced, stored and bottled. The focus is on the gentle treatment of the fruit and the young wines, fermentation on barrels as well as maturation on the lees. The result is distinctly fresh and fruity wines, rich in extract and clear origin.
Vinification & Terroir
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by old oak barrels which gives the wine a richer flavours.
Terroir: The area around La Roche Vineuse and Pierreclos in Mâcon (Burgundy) is rich in limestone.
